The Electric Chairs

Wayne County and The Electric Chairs

The tour continued for several weeks, getting good to mixed reactions, but the musical divisions and directions in the band were getting more apparent, and in June 79 the band made their final recordings for THE JOHN PEEL SHOW recording the tracks,
1.BERLIN, 2.MIDNIGHT PAL 3.WAITING FOR THE MARINES
4. C.4. an experimental track written on the session, (which seemed to surprise Peel ), but this track was never released. The session was produced by DAVID CUNNINGHAM and was intended to promote the new musical direction on the third album, and was generally well received. Three of these tracks, BERLIN, MIDNIGHT PAL, and WAITING FOR THE MARINES were re-released on C.D. on the R.P.M. RECORDS label, entitled
Let Your Backbone Slip (cat no: R.P.M. 145) and was released in 1995,along with five tracks from the 1st album and, two tracks from the 2nd album. It is available from various websites and companies like, CHERRY RED RECORDS, and many others.

After the tour in 79 the band, returned to London, to the gothic mansion 'squat' in S.W.7. that, they were all now living in, relations in the band were breaking down, Wayne and elliot flew back to new York, to form another band, ( Wayne later stating that, Wayne / Jayne had been planning to go solo for some time ). Meanwhile, the three remaining members, in England, VAL HALLER, J.J. JOHNSON and HENRI PADOVANI, sensing the original band was over, decided to continue as THE ELECTRIC CHAIRS and were given four weeks to find a replacement singer, and write an album, and after rehearsing with singers, none of which were suitable, the trio decided to go into the studio at the end of September, and record some tracks with producer, DAVID CUNNINGHAM, resulting in the 7" single:

SO MANY WAYS 7"
cat no: safe 18
Released Nov 79

SO MANY WAYS with VAL, taking on lead vocals, and J'ATTENDS LES MARINES with HENRI on lead vocals. The musical direction again, being experimental, using electronic treatments on the drums, rhythmic, and vocals, with the technology that was available at the time, and was released in November 1979, by SAFARI RECORDS ( cat no: safe 18. ) receiving a few good reviews, and airplay in the UK and Europe, but no promotion. The bands instruments were then impounded, due to apparent financial discrepancies in the bands affairs, making it impossible to function as a band, coupled, with no record releases from the company, equals = no records, no instruments, equals = no music, no music, equals = no gigs, no gigs, equals = no band, END OF STORY, (SO FAR).
