The band had been touring exhaustively from early 1977, appearing at various
sized venues, with bands such as THE
POLICE ALTERNATIVE T.V., X-RAY
SPECS, THE ADVERTS, ADAM
AND THE ANTS,
SQUEEZE,
EATER, BIG IN JAPAN, GENERATION X, JONATHAN RICHMAN & THE MODERN LOVERS,
and others, playing some brilliant gigs at punk venues that seemed to
mushroom up at the time, such as THE VORTEX CLUB
in Oxford Street, and at more familiar London venues like The
ROXY, DINGWALLS, HOPE & ANCHOR and THE ROUNDHOUSE. Not forgetting
numerous gigs at the amazing ERICSin Liverpool
and the ELECTRIC CIRCUS and THE
RUSSELL CLUB, in Manchester, plus many more throughout Britain
and Europe
At this point J.J. left the band briefly for a few weeks, to fulfil gigs
and obligations to SPECTA and THE SKUNKS, which he was still intermitently
part of at that time, and was replaced by, BRYSON
GRAHAM from legendary 60's band SPOOKY
TOOTH . Meanwhile, as Wayne and Greg had to return
to New York they decided to play a few U.S gigs with the new line up,
including Boston and Toronto. Things did not work out musically or personally,
within this new line-up and J.J. was asked to rejoin the band when they
returned to England around August 77.
The
Electric Chairs then gigged intensively and, after a blinding gig
at THE MARQUEE CLUB, with then up and
coming group THE
POLICE, as support band, featuring new guitarist
ANDY SUMMERS, Wayne and theElectric Chairs were offered a spot on
the bill of the forthcoming, READING FESTIVAL, being, the first punk
